Over the next 5-15 years, if scandium's applications in solid oxide fuel cells, hydrogen electrolyzers, or high-performance aluminum alloys expand, demand could increase by 5-10 times. By then, Africa, as a region with untapped resources but lacking refining capabilities, may attract upstream exploration capital, while the refining stage may flow to countries with cheap electricity and processing technology. Whether Africa can seize the upstream opportunity depends on whether it can make early moves during the current low tide.
